2009 WORKSHOPS
Playing Levels:
Beginner: New player, ready to build playing skills, basic knowledge/understanding of instrument.
Novice: Knows how to tune, plays a few songs (from memory) understands rhythm, melody line & what is a chord.
Intermediate/Advanced: Repertoire of tunes, understands Chords, Modes, Dynamics, Playing Styles & Techniques.
Master Class: Intermediate and Beyond Dulcimer/Detailed workshop - see #5 below

TUTOR CLASSES ARE NEW FOR 2009- Classes for any participant who has unanswered questions (either before or after attending workshop classes) and for those who might be frustrated in the playing or understanding of their instrument. This is an opportunity to get their questions answered individually with an instructor dedicated to solving your concerns so that you will return home knowing that you are ready & confident in yourmusic skills to move forward on your own.

MOUNTAIN DULCIMER WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS :
#1 Webb/ - Let's Get Started– For the brand new begining player/introduction to all the basics/DAD tuning.
#2 Haggerty/ Starting DAC-Play in a minor sounding tuning “Scarborough Fair”, “ShadyGrove”, “Nonsuch
”#3 Durham/Playing Duets with mountain dulcimer together with other instruments for a unique sound.
#4 Carter/ Aolean tuning with a Capo – “Star of the County Down” L&R hand technique,and cross picking.
#5 Trump/ Master Class/Know your instrument thoroughly, note placement on different strings, understanding chords, hearing chord changes, tune playing without tablature & music theory. Come prepared to work, understand and discover the many treasures within your dulcimers and under your fingertips. (extra fee-see registration form)
#6 Harnden/Tuning, Strumming easy tunes - Question & Answer Session for the begining player.
#7 Webb/ - Getting in touch with your inner rhythm, straight & syncopated rhythums, build confidence.
#8 Muller/ Understanding Moveable Chords and Harmonies in DAD tuning and how to use them.
#9 Durham&Hawk/ Using different styles while playing together – Arranging Lead and Backup parts for tunes.

#11 Trump/ Music Theory for beginning players including the basics, what a player needs to know.
#12 O’Rourke/Basic back up techniques in DAD tuning to use while playing your mountain dulcimer.
#13 Carter / Skills to let the Let the R Hand know what the Left Hand is doing while you are playing.
#14 Haggerty/ Using the Capo – Key of A tuning when you are starting in DAD tuning.

#16 Beede/ Simple Instruments to play with the Mountain Dulcimer such as tinwhistle, harmonica, bass box (bring your own instrument.)
#17 Muller/ Appalachian Tunes & Traditional Tunes from West Virginia and beyond. Learn to use hammer ons & pulls.
#18 Carter/ Let’s do the Balalika Stum on your mountain dulcimer. (The Balalika is a Russian folk instrument.)
#19 O’Rourke/Advanced execises and other things to improve and expand your dulcimer playing

#24 O’Rourke/Learn to play Fiddle Tunes up to speed and some "funksy" using DAD tuning and a capo.
